This ‘1989 Collection’, presented in partnership with Forum 2000, gathers together key books to aid our users in their own reflections on 1989.

The aim of this collection is of course not to be comprehensive, but to bring together a collection of works for a rounded reflection on 1989 and its legacy. This resonates with the theme of this year’s Forum 2000 annual conference: ‘Recovering the Promise of 1989’. Various works listed below are by members of Forum 2000, and in particular, the International Coalition for Democratic Renewal (e.g. Francis Fukuyama, Richard Youngs). Given that Forum 2000 pursues the legacy of Czech dissident and democratic leader Václav Havel, we have also included his 2011 memoir.
