On 26 July 2019 the organisation Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) became a DEM-DEC partner. A non-profit, non-partisan international network of committed legislators, PGA informs and mobilizes parliamentarians in all regions of the world to advocate for human rights and the rule of law, democracy, human security, non-discrimination, and gender equality.

Campaign for Democratic Renewal and Human Rights

In 2018, PGA launched the Campaign for Democratic Renewal and Human Rights as part of its core mandate to contribute to the creation of a “rules-based international order for a more equitable, safe and democratic world” by working to:

1. Promote norms, regulations and best practices reinforcing and protecting civil and political democratic space.

2. Protect the human rights of democracy activists, especially parliamentarians in opposition, women in politics, minorities and vulnerable groups.

On 5 December 2018 DEM-DEC finalised a Memorandum of Understanding with the global democracy assessment organisation V-Dem (Varieties of Democracy), which will form the basis for collaboration including information sharing, bridging the gap between academia and policymakers, and co-organising events and training.

Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem) is a new approach to conceptualizing and measuring democracy, providing a multidimensional and disaggregated dataset that reflects the complexity of the concept of democracy as a system of rule that goes beyond the simple presence of elections.

Based at the V-Dem Institute in the Department of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, V-Dem is a global team of 50 social scientists, 170 Country Coordinators (CCs) and 3,000 Country Experts (CEs), the V-Dem project is one of the largest social science data collection projects in the democracy research sector.

Become a Partner

If you would like to become a partner, fill out the form below and we can discuss possibilities. Do include as much information as possible. Alternatively, simply e-mail democraticdecay@gmail.com.

The baseline for partnership starts at simply offering 'moral support', and ideally helping to publicise the Resource. More substantial support (e.g. funding) may form part of partnership arrangements with selected organisations, as appropriate and based on mutual agreement.
